Energy Efficiency in Pumps

While the demand for energy is increasing every year, the issue of energy efficiency is among the most important agenda items of the world and Turkey. As with many devices, significant energy savings can be achieved by increasing the efficiency of pumps that need energy. Duyar Pompa, one of the new generation leading companies in the pump and pump systems sector, explained the factors affecting the energy efficiency of pumps due to the “World Savings Day” celebrated on the last day of October.
Today, energy efficiency is one of the mostly talked topics. Both the decrease in energy sources and the negative impact of gases formed after the use of fossil-based energy sources on the environment have led to the need to develop devices that consume less energy. Regarding this, some countries in the world, especially European countries, are developing policies related to energy efficiency and limiting the use of inefficient devices that consume a lot of energy with new regulations. The latest Paris Agreement, which we, as Turkey, have also participated in, is the current agreement covering these policies.
At Duyar Pompa, we spend 6% of our net profit on R &D investments in order to increase the efficiency of pumps. Our R&D studies are continuing in order to get UL Listed and FM Approved certificates for our fire pumps. For our HVAC products, we are trying to minimize our carbon footprint by producing efficient pumps that work with lower consumption. For this purpose, our CFD studies are constantly continuing in order to produce more efficient pumps continuously.
The use of frequency converters in pumps also makes an important contribution to energy efficiency. Because the pumps are selected according to the maximum load required, that is, the need, but they spend a very large part of their life at partial loads, that is, meeting much lower needs. The most typical example of this is the OPUS circulation pumps used in the heating system. Circulation pumps with frequency converter allow the pump to operate closer to the actual required value and provide significant energy savings by reducing the frequency in load requirements corresponding to 98% of the heating period.
Another issue that affects energy efficiency is related to the choice of pumps. If the pump is selected at the wrong point, the advantages of high motor and hydraulic efficiency are almost eliminated. The highest hydraulic efficiency point indicated on the pump curve needs to be selected in the region of ±20%. If he is not elected in this region, the negativity that may occur may not be prevented.
While choosing a pump, knowing the factors that affect its efficiency will ensure long-lasting and quiet operation of the pump, as well as efficient operation.
As a result, the use of energy-efficient new generation products will provide both individual benefits in terms of the price we pay and social benefits in terms of the future of the country.
